Update as per 4 January 2024:
For entry into Kenya every traveler needs to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), this will allow you to stay up to 90 days.
The application needs to be done for each new entry into the country unless you are staying within East Africa, so if you visit Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and then go back to Kenya you can use the same ETA as long as you stay within the 90 days validity.
One exception is if you have the East Africa visa from either Rwanda or Uganda and you then travel on to Kenya, in that case you can enter Kenya with this visa and do not need to apply for the ETA.
The ETA application can be done through this website: https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en.
Processing takes up to 3 working days and application can be done within 3 months before travel. NOTE: the ETA is valid for 90 days from the date of approval so do not apply too far advance before you travel as the ETA needs to cover your entire time in Kenya. Please calculate dates carefully especially if you are on a tour which returns to Kenya at the end, or you are planning to return to Kenya from Tanzania for an onward flight after your tour, to ensure that the ETA will remain valid right until the end of your trip. Do get in touch if you have any queries.
You will need a copy of your passport, selfie (passport) photo, flight/travel itinerary, arrival hotel booking confirmation or letter of invitation and yellow fever certificate if traveling from a yellow fever country.
For anyone on a trip that starts in Nairobi and departs on day 2 to Tanzania, we spend the first night of the tour at the Wildebeest camp. If you depart on day 1 to Tanzania you can use the hotel you are staying before the trip as place of stay. The border we use to cross into Tanzania is Namanga border.
For anyone on a trip heading into Uganda, we use the Malaba border from Kenya to Uganda and we are scheduled to depart on day 10 of the tour. Please note itineraries may be subject to change.
The cost is U$30
